Frustrating long five-minute stretches always interrupted their conversation, when they went camping or to parks. Ross stood on the park bench. His soap box. Ross wore jeans, white shirt unbuttoned to the second button and black dress jacket, white gym shoes. He belonged in a poet reading. His short-black hair in a mass of jerks and exclamation marks. Cant you hear them, Ani? Their uttering, cawing. Their hooting and howling and blabbering.

Pencils are sharpened, books are opened;
The teacher says everyone's sweet name.

Clay is slapped down on tabletops, People with friendly smiles are made. A pretty dress is chocolate for the touch.
Crayons roll out of their square boxes.
Protective dragons fly circling the sky.
And stars are music to the eyes.
The bright children are let outside to play.
They imagine ferris wheels and fireworks.
